Personal ‘tag’ – some questions and answers about me

I try to be quite personal on my website and social media. Maybe you already know some things about me like: I quit law school to pursue photography, live together with my boyfriend Erik and I absolutely love traveling, food, my family, friends and relaxing at the beach. But how about we go a little further this time ;-). I asked my dear photographer friends to send me some questions and I’ll answer them in this blog. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any other questions for me!

Did you become what you wanted to be when you were young?

No… I actually never was one of those kids that knew what they wanted to do later in life. To be really honest, there was a point when I really envied people that did had some sort of calling or big dream to chase. After high school I took a leap year and traveled to Costa Rica with my best friend, hoping to find the answer somehow. I had a great time but still had no idea what I wanted to study / do for a living. Out of the ‘need’ to choose something, I went to law school and although I didn’t really like it, I held on for quite some time. Even when photography came into my life. It took me some time to allow myself to choose the life of an entrepreneur, but I’m só glad I did!

Iceland or Italy?

Italy for sure! I have never been to Iceland and really want to, but I am quite sure that it could not exceed my love for Italy. I go almost every year, sometimes for work and sometimes on holiday. It’s just such a pretty country with lots of diversity and of course A-mazing food!

Introvert or extravert?

An easy one. I am quite introverted, always have been and always will be. Something which I guess kept me from doing some things when I was younger but nowadays I mostly see it as an advantage. Especially for wedding photography it can be a great quality if you ask me. I often get compliments from couples and wedding guests how I can work quite unnoticed and how they felt at ease when being in front of my camera.

Which was the last book you read?

I think it was “The war of art” by Steven Pressfield. All I read are business and marketing books nowadays. This one was great by the way, a real eye opener!

What’s your favorite season?

Definitely summer. As I said, I am a beach person. Both in Holland and when traveling, there’s no better feeling than laying on a beach, feeling the sun on your skin and swimming in oceans.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Very driven, (a bit of a) workaholic and a dreamer.

Do you have a guilty pleasure song?

I can’t think of a specific song. Usually I really like listening to people like John Mayer and Jason Mraz but from time to time I just need to sing along with Taylor Swift ;-).

What would you do with 1 million euros?

That’s a hard one, because you can fantasize it all you like, I think nobody really knows what he / she would do when you have access to that much money. But the way I see it right now: I would plan a dream trip to Japan, Africa or the United States with my boyfriend and also a family vacation with my parents and brother. I would invest some extra money in my business, put a big chunk of it in savings and last but not least try to do something with it that means something. Not just transfer money to a yet-to-be-determined cause but be more involved in one or set up something myself.

What does your dream job and assignment look like?

My dream job is being a wedding photographer, for sure. In the future I hope to keep doing photographing weddings and inspire / help other entrepreneurs with their photography and business. My dream assignment would be an elopement or very intimate wedding somewhere in the mountains of Norway or Yosemite.

With many thanks to Romy Dermout, Eline van der Woude, Wianda Bongen, Corine Nap for these great questions.
