Photographing people doing what they love is always something magical—but doing it at a floral- and personal-growth retreat in a Belgian château? That’s another level entirely. Spending a few days with these generous, creative souls…I could talk all day, but I’ll let the photos do most of the talking.

 

A Sanctuary for Creative Growth

Hosted by Emily Avenson—the passionate farmer‑florist behind Fleuropean—this retreat unfolds at Château Wodémont, a historic 11th‑century estate nestled in 50 hectares of rolling Belgian countryside. Each season, Emily cultivates a vibrant palette of blooms—from spring bulbs to summer dahlias to autumn fruits and florals. Participants fully immerse themselves in the creative process: harvesting fresh flowers, learning hands‑on design techniques (from bowls to bouquets to breathtaking staircase installations), and dyeing silk ribbons with natural plant pigments.

 

Waking up in the château’s enchanted bedrooms, gathering in the barn studio, strolling through secret cottage gardens… I loved capturing the story of these floral artists.
